NEW YORK--The national average for gasoline, according to AAA's survey, broke another record Monday at $1.75 a gallon. CNN/Money said this is the fifth straight record for the survey, which is updated every weekday. The Lundberg survey showed that prices rose 3-1/3 cents over the past two weeks.
The improving economy, holiday travel and even an extra hour of daylight will likely drive up demand for a while, said Trilby Lundberg, editor of the survey.
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries is meeting this week to decide if it will delay plans to cut oil production on April 1. Despite OPEC's decision, gas prices aren't likely to fall much because of demand, said Lundberg.
Prices are up 29 cents a gallon nationwide since December, said Lundberg.
