Salesmen and F&I managers in West Virginia will need a license to sell vehicles or insurance and to arrange loans under a new state law, reported the West Virginia Record.
While the law took effect June 9, the deadline to obtain a license has been extended to Jan. 1, 2008. Those already in sales positions will receive a license automatically under a grandfather clause.
New salespeople will undergo a background check, fingerprinting and must pass a test. The initial license will be good for three to seven years and will cost $7 a year. A renewal will cost $10 and will last five years.
The West Virginia Automobile Dealers Association endorsed the legislation.
