Tesla’s Fight in Ohio to Continue
The Columbus Dispatch reports that Ohio legislators dropped an amendment that would ban Tesla from owning an auto dealership in the state.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Legislators in Ohio dropped an amendment Tuesday that would have prohibited Tesla Motors from operating a dealership in the state, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Auto dealers reportedly tried to push the amendment onto a bill that requires drivers to move over when approaching a road-maintenance vehicle, but both Republicans and Democrats questioned the additional verbiage related to Tesla.
“I’ve watched amendments go through at the last minute and making mistakes,” Rep. Rex Damschroder (R-Fremont), the Transportation Committee chairman, told the Dispatch. “This issue is of such importance that it shouldn’t be rushed.”
“Are we standing in the way of something that is innovative?” said Rep. Robert F. Hagan (D-Youngstown). “This is an up-and-coming, 6,000-employee group that should be given an opportunity to expand.”
