BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. -- Megadealer UnitedAuto Group Inc. is growing its international presence. It acquired a 75 percent interest in Germany's Tamsen GmbH, Continental Europe's number one luxury auto retailer.
Tamsen operates Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Lamborghini franchises.
The other 25 percent stake will remain in the hands of Heiner Tamsen, who will continue managing the business with UnitedAuto.
"The realization of our strategic plans demands a strong partner," said Tamsen. "I am proud to team up with UnitedAuto Group -- one of the world leaders in car retailing."
UnitedAuto operates 94 franchises internationally, mainly in the United Kingdom. It has 138 franchises in the United States.
The increasingly important profit center continued making gains in the first quarter, according to StoneEagle data, ancillary products proving more popular as consumers hold onto their buys longer.
