Used-Vehicle Values Fall After Employee Pricing Success
Used vehicles values dropped for the third consecutive month after employee pricing programs continued to propel new-vehicle sales in July.
Used vehicles values dropped for the third consecutive month after employee pricing programs continued to propel new-vehicle sales in July.
Manheim’s Used Vehicle Value Index fell at a faster rate last month that the previous two, coming in at 108.8, according to Autremarketing.com. That number is down 1.7 percent from June, but up 2.2 percent from last year.
Tom Webb, Manheim’s chief economist, says that it was the consumer turn out for discount pricing, not dollar increases in incentive spending, that forced a dip in used-car values the last few months.
With the record number of trade-ins handed over at dealerships, even continued growth in used-vehicle retail demand is having trouble keeping up with the inventory.
Full-size pickups and SUVs saw a majority of the price decline, as they were the most sought after in the employee discount pricing programs.
