Va. Dealer Could Lose License Over Gambling, Drug Charges
Virginia regulators are reviewing the case of an auto dealer who pleaded guilty to running an online sports gambling ring and was convicted on drug charges. The state has the right to revoke dealer and vehicle sales licenses due to felony convictions.
SALEM, Va. — Virginia regulators are reviewing the case of auto dealer David Alan Thompson, who pleaded guilty on Feb. 27 to running an online sports gambling ring and was convicted last week on a drug charge for selling cocaine to a police informant. Typically, the state prohibits felons from running auto dealerships, according to The Roanoke Times.
The Virginia Motor Vehicle Dealer Board will hold administrative proceedings to determine whether Thompson will be able to retain his dealer license and vehicle sales license. A felony conviction is a basis for revoking either license, but the revocation is not automatic.
