Vehicle Sales Begin to Stabilize
Sales of new cars and trucks are beginning to stabilize as warmer weather takes hold and consumers begin to tire of continuous television coverage of the war with Iraq, according to the Detroit News.
Through March 24, vehicle sales are down about 6 percent since the start of the war, compared with corresponding days during 2002, J.D. Power and Associates said March 26.
The California market research firm reported March 25 that sales were down 8 percent through the weekend, but J.D. Power chief economist Robert Schnorbus said March 26 that sales had bounced back on March 24.
At Tuttle-Click Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Tustin, Calif., sales manager Dave Rigot reports sales are off only slightly, but they're beginning to pick up. Southfield Chrysler Jeep sales manager Ken Thomas said the dealership had sold at least 70 cars since Monday. "I can't explain it, but I'm not going to argue," Thomas said March 26, according to the Detroit News.
