AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--Volkswagen announced last week that it will use Carfax vehicle history reports in the process of bringing its vehicles up to certified pre-owned standards.

"At the beginning of our CPO process, if the Carfax report uncovers an issue with a particular Volkswagen vehicle, we will review that vehicle's history more closely to ensure that the vehicle qualifies for certification," said Kris Arthur, Volkswagen CPO product and portfolio leader. "Carfax provides that 'background check' to help us screen cars and, in the end, reinforces to the buyers that they are getting the vehicles as presented."

The Volkswagen CPO process requires that vehicles aren't older than five model years and have less than 75,000 miles. After the vehicles pass a 112-point mechanical, safety and appearance inspection they are reconditioned and detailed to CPO standards.
