Dealer Faces Eight Felony Counts of Odometer Fraud
A Michigan dealer was arrested Dec. 3 after authorities checked several vehicles on his lot and discovered mileage discrepancies. Police said it appeared the dealer had installed used, low-mileage odometers in high-mileage cars.
FREMONT, Mich. — Dan Mack, the owner of Westwood Auto, was arrested on Dec. 3 and charged with eight felonies for allegedly tampering with the odometers of used vehicles he was selling, Woodtv.com reports.
In January, a customer of the dealership became suspicious and checked the mileage of a vehicle against a CARFAX report and found discrepancies, leading police to check other vehicles on the lot. Police said it appears Mack was buying used odometers showing low mileage and installed them in high-mileages cars.
