Ford recalled more than 330,000 Mustangs due to an issue that can lead to seat belt failure.
The recall affects 2015 to 2017 Mustangs. The cars’ front seat safety belts may experience corroded anchor pretensior cables that can weaken the cable or cause it to break off in certain environments, including in areas where road salt is used in winter, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Ford switched to a different seat belt assembly supplier for the Mustang in 2017. It said it’s not aware of any crashes or injuries connected to the problem.
Dealerships will inspect the seat belt cables for corrosion and replace the assembly if any is found, in addition to removing floorboard carpet sections that touch the seat belt cables.
The automaker is scheduled to mail safety notices to owners this month, to be followed by recall notices when it’s prepared the final remedy.
