The National Automobile Dealers Association has created its first 20 Group for women. The group will focus on the concerns of female dealers, who make up about 4 percent of NADA’s 20,000 members.
NADA operates 169 groups that meet regularly to share ideas and financial data. Each group consists of about 20 dealers.
Most of the groups are composed of dealers who sell the same brands or have similar sales volume. There also are specialized groups for used-vehicle managers, service managers, dealership comptrollers and NADA dealer academy graduates.
The women's group has 18 members and meets three times a year. Its first meeting was in November 2004. The next meeting is scheduled for March.
"This is a full-fledged 20 Group, but with a different spin," said Don South, an NADA consultant who oversees the women's group. "We have heard from our members over the years there are special challenges women face in running their business."
