JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Perceptive and often bold car thieves are causing a rise in vehicle thefts in Jacksonville, Fla. dealerships, and the trend could be a nationwide, according to First Coast News.
In the report, David Hamm, president of the Jacksonville Automobile Dealers Association (JADA), said that about 50 vehicle thefts have taken place in the last two months at Jacksonville-area dealerships.
Some of the thefts have occurred during broad daylight when keys are left in the vehicles and service department employees or salespeople turn their backs. These bold tactics have sometimes netted thieves several cars at one time. Hamm added that he has heard news of similar incidents happening nationwide.
JADA is presently working with the local sheriff’s office to create tougher laws that deter future thefts.
