Used-Car Prices Rose Slightly in February, the NADA Reports
Used-car prices rose 0.8 percent, which is well below the 3 percent increase observed during the same period in 2011 and 2012.
MCLEAN, Va. — Used-car prices rose 0.8 percent in February, well below the 3 percent increase observed during the same period in the previous two years. Prices are expected to be flat in March and then decline through April.
Both used-car and -truck prices stayed relatively stable despite a steep ascent in gas prices, according to the March edition of Guidelines, a monthly report from NADA that analyzes trends and pricing information on both the new- and used-vehicle markets.
Sales growth for new vehicles slowed to 4 percent, the slowest pace since April 2012. The seasonally adjusted rate (SAAR) exceeded 15 million units for the fourth month in a row in February, and the month’s 15.3 million SAAR most likely would have been higher had it not been for crippling winter storms in many major metropolitan areas.
