The Volkswagen North America division president, Winfried Vahland, resigns a month after being appointed to this position, according to a report by the New York Times. Vahland leaves after 25 years with the company.
The automaker stated that the reason for Vahland's departure is due to a disagreement over how to organize operations in North America. Volkwagen made it clear that his resignation has nothing to do with the company's ongoing diesel-emissions cheating scandal.
Prior to his appointment as manager of Volkswagen's North America division, Vahland was the chief of Volkswagen Group's Skoda unit. And before then, he had varying positions with the company.
In his position as manager of VW's North America division, Vahland would have had overall responsibility of operations in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
