Thomas R. Dart, CAE, president of the Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama, Inc., was elected the 2003 president of the Automotive Trade Association Executives (ATAE) on January 31.

According to the association, Dart takes over the leadership post for an organization that represents the executives of 113 state and metropolitan automobile dealer associations in the U.S. and Canada. From his work at the Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama, he has extensive experience representing dealer interests in legislative, communications, educational and community relations arenas.

Dart was the associate director of the Alabama Petroleum Council, legislative assistant and press secretary for former U.S. Rep. John H. Buchanan, Jr. (R-Birmingham), president of the Alabama Council of Association Executives, and president of the Alabama Council of Association Workers' Compensation Self-Insurance Funds.

ATAE represents the executives of more than 100 state and metropolitan dealer associations in the U.S. and Canada. Those associations respond to dealer needs on state and local legislative, regulatory, business, and consumer issues.
