HANOVER, Md. — Legal compliance services provider Hudson Cook LLP has announced that two of its attorneys, Michael A. Goodman and Thomas Buiteweg, have been appointed to chairmanships by the American Bar Association.
Goodman will assume the chairmanship of the Federal and State Trade Practices Subcommittee of the ABA's Consumer Financial Services Committee. The subcommittee focuses on the intersection of federal and state regulation of business practices, with an emphasis on unfair and deceptive trade practices and marketing, advertising, and privacy issues.
"I’m both proud and pleased that the American Bar Association has selected Michael for this responsibility," said Robert Cook, managing partner of Hudson Cook. "His background will allow him to provide meaningful leadership to the Federal and State Trade Practices Subcommittee."
Buiteweg has been appointed by the ABA's Business Law Section to chair the General Provisions and Relations to Other Law Subcommittee of the Section’s Uniform Commercial Code Committee. The Subcommittee monitors developments under UCC Article 1, the "hub" Article of the UCC that supplies rules applicable across the Articles. The subcommittee also focuses on the relationship between the UCC and other laws, such as the consumer protection laws or motor vehicle certificate of title acts.
"I’m very pleased that the American Bar Association has selected Tom for this responsibility," said Tom Hudson, partner at the Hudco's Hanover, Md. office. "His experience with the UCC, the consumer finance laws, and the motor vehicle title acts will allow him to provide meaningful leadership to the Subcommittee."
