Ford has recalled nearly 243,000 Ford Maverick trucks over an issue that could cause their taillights to stop working.

The recall affects 2022 to 2024 Mavericks, whose body control module may deactivate one or both taillights on its own, according to a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

Lack of rear-vehicle lighting can obviously pose risk at night, making a vehicle virtually invisible to other drivers and increasing the chance of a crash.

Ford dealers will update the body control module software. Meanwhile, the automaker plans to mail recall notices to owners on May 20.
