General Motors has made its way back to Woodward Avenue in a move the company said “is a declaration of our commitment to keeping America’s automotive excellence rooted right here.”

GM’s original location on Woodward Avenue opened in 1911, but over the years its headquarters has changed locations a few times, only to find its way home again. The new location is at Hudson’s Detroit, a plaza that spans an entire city block and in the spot where the historic J.L. Hudson Department Store once stood.

Woodward Avenue, also known as Detroit’s "Main Street," has been a hub for the automotive industry for over 100 years.

“Our continued dedication to the city is highlighted throughout the building,” the automaker said.

Entrance One to the lobby is a tribute to the department store, and the lobby itself showcases GM’s latest vehicles. The headquarters was crafted by GM Design and “embodies the signature flair and forward-thinking that have always defined General Motors.” The sleek, modern look integrates installations from contemporary artists, such as Detroit’s Harry Bertoia.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of Detroit’s remarkable resurgence. We’re leading with bold investments, innovative partnerships, and cutting-edge vehicles," GM said. "At Hudson’s Detroit, we’re ready to create the future of transportation as only the Motor City can.”
