Gas prices fell slightly for the second straight week, said the government Monday.
The Energy Information Administration's weekly survey showed the national average for regular unleaded at $2.034, down from $2.051 the previous week, reported USA Today. All regions but the Northeast experienced price declines. But the reprieve likely won't last for long.
"We could see prices back around $1.60 by Thanksgiving," said Fred Rozell, retail gasoline expert for the Oil Price Information Service. "Demand decreases; we change back to cheaper-to-make winter-blend fuel, and that opens us up to more foreign supplies of finished gasoline. Many foreign refiners are not sophisticated enough to make the summer fuel."
Oil Price Information Service analyst Tom Kloza said "$3 gasoline will be a possibility" next year.
