CHICAGO — The Warranty Group Inc., an underwriter, administrator and marketer of service plans and related programs, has appointed Joel Appelbaum as chief underwriting and actuarial officer.

“Joel brings deep underwriting and actuarial expertise that will play a key part in our global growth initiative," said David Cole, Chairman and CEO of The Warranty Group. “His insight and guidance will benefit our clients and assure our continued leadership in developing innovative programs that drive revenue as well as customer acquisition and retention.”

Appelbaum most recently held the position of chief risk officer North America for Zurich, where he also served as chief analytics officer of programs and direct markets, and chief underwriting officer of universal underwriters. Previously, he held positions with CNA Insurance and Argonaut Great Central Insurance Company.

Appelbaum holds an International MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School and a Bachelor of Science degree from DePaul University.
