Total new-vehicle sales in April increased 0.6% compared with a year ago to 1.45 million units sold, according to Autodata Corp. April’s SAAR was 16.5 million units.
Total new-vehicle sales in March increased 0.6% from a year ago to 1,545,802 units. The seasonally adjusted annual rate increased to 17.15 million units, according to Autodata Corp.
Total light-vehicle retail sales are expected to reach 1.3 million units in February, the highest total for the month since 2002, according to projections from J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.
J.D. Power and LMC Automotive expect the industry to realize its best January for new-vehicle sales since 2004, with the firms projecting sales of 932,000 units.
A 10.8% new-vehicle sales increase in December capped off a year in which the industry broke through the 16 million-unit mark.
New-vehicle retail sales in December are expected to reach a SAAR of 14.2 million units, the highest level since 2006.
November total light vehicle sales increased 4.6% from a year ago to more than 1.3 million units. The industry SAAR was also up significantly from a year ago and the month prior, rising to 17.20 million units.
At the NADA /J.D. Power Western Automotive Conference this week, NADA Chief Economist Steven Szakaly predicted that new-car and light truck sales will hit 16.94 million units in 2015.
The October retail sales forecasts from J.D. Power and Kelly Blue Book are in, and they are predicting a solid sales performance in what is traditionally the second weakest month of the year for car sales.
New projections from TrueCar and J.D. Power show the industry heading to its best September sales month since 2007, with sales expected to be as much as 9.7% better than last year.
