Ford says its F-Series trucks were the top truck seller in the country for the 47th year in a row at more than 700,000 units in 2023.

The Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker said the series remained the best-selling vehicle, truck and nontruck, for the 42nd consecutive year.

It said the line’s PowerBoost Hybrid was the best-selling full-size hybrid truck in the U.S.

The company’s U.S. sales director, Robert Kaffl, emphasized in a press release on the showings that it’s “excited to begin production of the new 2024 gas and hybrid F-150 models early in the year.”

He seemed to bury “electric” in that statement. Electric-vehicle sales have proved slower to take off than Ford and other legacy automakers had expected and planned for.

In September, Ford said it planned to double hybrid F-150 production this year. The following month, it said it would slow production at the plant where it makes the electric F-150 Lightning.

“Our unwavering focus on growth across gas, hybrid, and electric models in 2024 reflects our promise to offer a truck for every customer – one that fits seamlessly into their lifestyle,” Kaffl said, noticeably including electric at the end of the list.
