Automotive journalists around the world doled out kudos to automakers in various categories, including for design, at the New York International Auto Show.
The awards program, which originated in 2004, is judged by a panel of more than 100 professional automotive journalists in 30 countries.
Winning this year’s overall award is the BMW iX3 as World Car of the Year, as well as World Electric Vehicle. The German automaker also took the body’s Person of the Year nod: chairman of BMW’s governing board, Oliver Zipse, who took that position in 2019 and has spent his full career at BMW.
Jurors test-drove eligible vehicles before voting on finalists and conducting a second round of test-drives. They separately voted on Person of the Year candidates.
Winners of the program’s other categories are:
- Lucid Gravity – World Luxury Car
- Hyundai Ioniq 6 N – World Performance Car
- Firefly by Chinese automaker Nio – World Urban Car
- Mazda 6e/EZ-6 – World Car Design
