BMW and Amazon say BMW's semiautonomous driver assistance system will be built using Amazon's cloud computing technology.

The next-generation ADAS of the German automaker will be available in its Neue Klasse range of electric cars to launch in 2025, reported CNBC. ADAS is a software system that can hel;p drivers with tasks like parking and changing lanes.

ADAS technology demands significant data processing, since its software depends on hardware sets, such as semiconductors and cameras. The foundation of the assisted-driving systems lies in artificial intelligence processes.

Using Amazon Web Services (AWS) will enable BMW to store and process data in Amazon’s cloud servers. More data storage and processing will be needed as autonomous driving features advance, reported CNBC.

Using Amazon’s cloud will enable BMW to update software rapidly and train new artificial-intelligence models for autonomous driving. Later, the new features can be downloaded over the internet into the vehicle, CNBC reported.

“Implementing these systems on the BMW Group’s international scale requires an approach that can process and analyze vast amounts of data, as well as learn and innovate, so automakers can develop safer and more reliable automated and ADAS systems,” Wendy Bauer, general manager of automotive and manufacturing at AWS, said in a press release.

The automaker also announced that Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride platform will power its ADAS starting in 2025.
