HAMBURG, Ark. -- Former Monticello, Ark. dealer, Rick Funderburg, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered by the judge to write a personal apology to each of his 91 victims he is said to have bilked out of as much as $1 million, according to the Pine Bluff Commercial.
Funderburg pleaded guilty in May to 94 counts of theft and one count of defrauding a secured creditor, Union Bank & Trust of Monticello, in the operation of Rick’s Auto Outlet. He faced a possible prison sentence of 1,886 years but reached an agreement shortly before his trial after waiving his right to a jury trial.
Under the terms of the sentencing agreement, Funderburg must write letters to every one of his victims, which includes customers, auto wholesalers and financial institutions, and will also serve an 18-year suspended imposition of sentence following his release. If he receives the maximum amount of meritorious good time, Funderburg will be eligible for early release after two years.
