DALLAS—Some Texas car dealerships are taking extra steps when it comes to transactions with customers, according to a recent news report by CBS News. More dealerships are now relying on cameras to make sure transactions run smoothly.

Every finance transaction is video taped, according Kevin Boren of Westway Ford in Irving, Texas. By using the cameras, there is no gray area, he says.

The camera system, called Intravision, consists of digital cameras located on the ceiling and computer software. The conversation can be played back on the computer and then stored in the archive for future reference if necessary.

The cameras have been in place for three years at Westway Ford and have been successful, according to Boren. Customers are told before hand that they will be taped and Boren says this hasn’t deterred any one from going through with a sale.

“It would be very good to be able to see the salesman and then counsel with him and say here are some things you maybe aren’t doing correctly, here are some things you did right,” says Kim Patterson of Ewing Autohaus in Plano, Texas.

The cameras would be especially helpful when it comes to identity theft, he says. They would allow dealerships to communicate with one another in fraud cases.
