Traverse City, Mich.—Chrysler Financial Corp. began testing its electronic retail installment contract, or e-contract, one year ago. Now Chrysler has 100 dealerships in 11 states that are using the new technology, according to Automotive News.

The automaker’s goal is to have 2,200 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealers using the electronic products, including electronic signature pads, by the second quarter of 2007.

In preparation for the launch of the new e-contracts, Chrysler Financial introduced AutOrigination, a service that allows dealers to send the contract to Chrysler Financial electronically and print a copy for the customer. This eliminates the dealer’s having to mail the contract to the lender. By first running a contract through AutOrigination, it helps eradicate mathematical errors and other mistakes before the dealer transmits the contract to Chrysler.

Between now and 2010, Chrysler plans to develop an electronic deal jacket, which is an electronic folder that contains all of the information required to complete a deal.
