Ford Motor Co. and JM&A Group have developed service contracts for customers who frequently trade in their vehicles before the factory warranty expires.
These service plans cover routine maintenance as well as normal wear on engine belts and hoses, brake pads and linings and wiper blades, reported Automotive News.
Ford´s premium maintenance plan was introduced in November, while JM&A has been testing its “Courtesy Care” plan since July and is expected to release it in January 2005.
Extended service contracts are not as valuable to people who trade in their cars every two or three years, said Jim McDavid, JM&A´s vice president of North American sales.
This new coverage assures car buyers that there is no risk of higher expenditures, Paul Taylor, chief economist for NADA, told Automotive News. “It lessens their concern about their trade-in value. That´s important to someone trading more frequently.”
