Mercedes-Bentz sales rose 21% in the third quarter to nearly 518,000 vehicles, its most robust quarter of the year so far.

As the German carmaker gears itself toward an all-electric lineup by 2030, its third-quarter battery-electric vehicles sales by 28% quarter-over-quarter and 115% year-over-year to 30,000 units.

Demand from China led the quarter’s gains, which came despite continued supply-chain woes experienced across the industry since the start of the Covid pandemic, plus the more recent market pressures of inflation and rising interest rates.

“In a challenging business environment -- primarily defined by ongoing semiconductor shortages -- we continue to see robust demand for Mercedes-Benz,” said Britta Seeger, member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, responsible for Mercedes-Benz cars marketing and sales. “With the EQS SUV and EQE SUV, which celebrates its premiere in Paris on October, 16, our customers can choose a fully electric vehicle in every segment served by Mercedes-Benz. We offer a choice of eight all-electric Mercedes-Benz models – more than any of our competitors.”

Mercedes said last year that it projected plug-in hybrids and BEVs to make up half its global sales by 2025. Its 2030 all-electric plans would apply except in areas with insufficient charging infrastructure.
