A new study ranks brands by the habits of their drivers, finding that Ram drivers are the worst on U.S. roads, Tesla drivers have the highest accident rate, and BMW drivers the top DUI rate.

The LendingTree analysis, based on insurance quote data in the year ended Nov. 14, ranks brands in various categories of bad driving.

In the overall bad-driving category, LendingTree ranks Ram drivers as the worst in the catchall group, which encompasses accidents, DUIs, speeding and issued tickets, with 32.90 incidents per 1,000 drivers.

Tesla drivers ranked first in accidents alone, with 23.54 accidents per 1,000 drivers.

BMW drivers were at the top of the list of drivers cited for driving under the influence by a wide margin, LendingTree says, with 3.13 DUIs per 1,000 drivers, almost twice the rate of Ram drivers, who had the second-highest rate.

The brand that got the study’s good marks is Mercury, whose drivers had the fewest bad-driving incidents: 15.82 per 1,000 drivers, less than half the rate of Ram drivers, LendingTree says.
