Texas Car Dealer Refunds Tricked Customers
EDINBURG, Texas -– A Ford dealership in South Texas must refund more than a hundred car owners who were tricked into paying for alarm systems that added $800 to the price of the car, said the state attorney general.
EDINBURG, Texas -– A Ford dealership in South Texas must refund more than a hundred car owners who were tricked into paying for alarm systems that added $800 to the price of the car, said the state attorney general.
Attorney General Greg Abbott said a representative from Yoder Ford, also known as Hacienda Ford, wrongfully engaged in the scheme, but the dealership was willing to cooperate after uncovering the deception, reported the KGBT television station.
According to Abbott, the dealership advertised sale prices for certain vehicles, but never intended to sell at those prices. He said this occurred in 2001, from April to July.
At the close of the sale, the dealer added the $800 price of the alarm system to the advertised price without disclosing to customers that the purchase was optional. Abbott said this violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act by advertising a sale price without intending to sell at that price.
