Volvo will reintroduce its vehicle subscription lease service next month in California.
The carmaker debuted the Care By Volvo service in 2018, and it’s now offered in all but a handful of states.
Care By Volvo ended in California several years ago after dealer associations in several states said its online subscriptions violated franchise laws barring carmakers from competing with franchised dealers.
The revamped service allows dealers to sell in-stock models to subscribers instead of subscribers having to order online, as was originally the case.
The California New Car Dealers Association fought the original subscription program, saying that Volvo had reduced franchisees to “acting as an agent of the manufacturer.” It said the program launched with “little involvement” from regulators or dealers.
