Toyota Developing Cloud-Based Telematics System
Toyota announced it is developing a cloud-connected telematics system that offers improved navigation features, in-vehicle Wi-Fi, and remote connectivity via a smartphone app.
LAS VEGAS — Toyota is developing a cloud-connected telematics system that offers improved navigation features, in-vehicle Wi-Fi, and remote connectivity via a smartphone app.
The Entune 3.0 telematics platform will improve Toyota’s navigation functionality with the addition of Scout GPS Link and the Dynamic Navigation feature, the automaker announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Scout GPS Link can transmit precise routing to the dashboard screen via Bluetooth and USB connection, and the Dynamic Navigation feature will update in real time to help ensure that map and navigation information is never out of date, according to the automaker.
Toyota partnered with Verizon to offer the in-vehicle Wi-Fi, which allows up to 5 devices to connect simultaneously to the Wi-Fi hotspot. The remote functionality allows vehicle owners to use the Entune mobile device app to start and stop their car. Owners can also receive warning alerts for excessive vehicle speed and if the vehicle is in location outside a set radius.
The Entune 3.0 also offers the capability to provide automatic notification in the instance of a crash to dispatch emergency support, as well as offer roadside assistance and stolen vehicle locator services.
