Ford recalled nearly 273,000 SUVs and pickups due to the risk their batteries may suddenly stop working.
The recall includes the 2021 to 2023 Bronco Sport and the 2022 and 2023 Maverick.
Just an estimated 1% of the vehicle population has the 12-volt battery defect, according to documents on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
The problem can result in sudden battery failure while the vehicle is in operation, preventing a restart or causing stalling as the vehicle comes to a stop at low speed, the documents indicate.
Recalled vehicles were repaired under an earlier recall that didn't adequately address the issue. Dealers will inspect affected vehicles’ batteries and replace them if they have the defect.
Recall notices are scheduled to be mailed to owners on Feb. 3.
