HANOVER, Md. — Hudson Cook LLP, a nationwide provider of legal compliance services for the financial services industry, announced that attorney Thomas Buiteweg was appointed by the business law section of the American Bar Association to chair the general provisions and relations to other law subcommittee of the section’s uniform commercial code committee (UCC).

The subcommittee monitors developments under UCC Article 1, the “hub” article of the UCC that supplies rules applicable across the articles. The subcommittee also focuses on the relationship between the UCC and other laws, such as the consumer protection laws or motor vehicle certificate of title acts.

Tom Hudson, partner at the Hanover, Md. office, said “I’m very pleased that the American Bar Association has selected Tom for this responsibility. His experience with the UCC, the consumer finance laws, and the motor vehicle title acts will allow him to provide meaningful leadership to the subcommittee.”

Tom Buiteweg’s practice at Hudson Cook focuses on helping financial institutions, sales finance companies, motor vehicle dealers and manufacturers to establish and maintain national consumer automobile finance and leasing programs, including helping them address issues arising under the UCC. He is based with Hudson Cook’s office in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Before joining the firm in 2008, Tom worked on the GMAC legal staff, where he served as general Counsel of GMAC's wholly-owned servicing subsidiary and managed the practice group responsible for regulatory and legal compliance matters relating to GMAC’s consumer automotive finance and lease operations.

Tom is a 1993 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame in 1987.
