HANOVER, Md. — Hudson Cook LLP, a nationwide provider of legal compliance services for the financial services industry, announced that Thomas J. Buiteweg, a partner at the firm’s Ann Arbor, Mich., office, has been elected to The American Law Institute (ALI).
ALI engages in intensive examination and analysis of legal areas thought to need reform. Their work generally culminates in extensive recommendations for change in the law. ALI president, Roberta Cooper Ramo, said “The process of being selected into the ALI is rigorous. Membership is a significant honor, as well as a promise to contribute to the health of the legal system in the U.S. and, increasingly, that of legal systems around the world.”
Tom Hudson, partner at the Hanover, Md. office, said, “I’m very pleased that The American Law Institute has selected Tom for this responsibility. His experience with the UCC and consumer finance laws will allow him to provide meaningful contributions to the Institute.”
Tom Buiteweg’s practice at Hudson Cook focuses on helping financial institutions, sales finance companies, motor vehicle dealers and manufacturers to establish and maintain national consumer automobile finance and leasing programs, including helping them address issues arising under the UCC.
Before joining the firm in 2008, Tom worked on the GMAC Legal Staff, where he served as General Counsel of GMAC's wholly-owned servicing subsidiary and managed the practice group responsible for regulatory and legal compliance matters relating to GMAC’s consumer automotive finance and lease operations. Tom is also a Uniform Law Commissioner for the State of Michigan and lecturer at the University of Michigan Law School on secured financing.
Tom is a 1993 magna cum laude graduate of University of Michigan Law School. He received a BBA in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame in 1987.
