Toyota recalled more than 100,000 Tacoma pickups over potential for brake fluid leakage.
The Japanese automaker said in a recall notice that the trucks’ rear brake hoses can be gradually damaged from dirt buildup inside the rear wheels from off-road driving. Resulting brake fluid leakage can then increase the chances of crashing due to reduction or loss of braking performance.
The recall affects 2024 and 2025 Tacomas with four-wheel drive.
Toyota was preparing a remedy to replace both rear brake hoses. It was scheduled to mail interim recall notices to owners on March 24, followed by second notices when the remedy is ready.
The automaker said it was evaluating other Tacomas of the same model years, including those with two-wheel drive, to determine if they might also have the defect.
