NEW YORK — The editors of Good Housekeeping have published a list of tips that promises to aid readers in driving down the asking price for a vehicle. In addition to advising that buyers initiate negotiations online, other pointers include:

• Utilize car-pricing resources such as Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book to determine the best available price, rebates and other incentives, and take that information with you to the dealership.

• Calculate your own asking price by subtracting the values of any rebates plus another $500.
